John Gurney Bsc(Hons)MCOptom FBDO(CL) SMC(TECH) OPwSI(Ophthalmology) GOC 01-17729 Specialist Optometrist and Clinical Director/Contact Lens Practitioner

John entered optics in 1986 qualifying as an optical technician at the City and East London College in 1988. After further study John became a registered Dispensing Optician in 1992 and qualified in Contact lenses two years later. In 1995 he attended the City University London for 3 years obtaining a 2:1 degree in Optometry. Following Professional Qualifying Exams he was elected a member of the College of Optometrists in 1999 and was registered as an Optometrist with the General Optical Council (GOC).

John is an accredited Optometrist for the Paula Carr Diabetic service regularly examining patients who have been referred to him for diabetic eye problems. He is also accredited by the West Kent Primary Care Trust to directly refer patients who are suffering from Cataracts

John is also a specialist Optometrist who is employed by the West Kent Primary Care NHS Trust and is part of the Community Ophthalmology Team as an 'OPwSI' – an Optometrist with Special Interest in Ophthalmology. This role sees him examining patients who may have been referred by the Hospital, their General Practitioner or Optometrist for a range of eye conditions such as glaucoma and macula degeneration.

Claire has been in optics for the past 8 years. She has a wide experience of dispensing for both multiple and independent opticians. Claire has been running our domiciliary eye care service for the past 4 years and is responsible with John for the overseeing of both the practices and home visiting services.
